                                             Slum Pockets of Golaghat

Golaghat is the headquarters town of Golaghat district. Total area of Golaghat district is 3541 SQKM. Agriculture forms the key sector of economy of the district. Tea, sugarcane, rice, mustard, oranges, pineapples are some of the principal cultivated crops.As per 2001 census report, the population figure of the town is 33064 persons .There is a high concentration of urban poor with 31.15% of the total population residing in slums.. In the town of Golaghat only 30.10% of  the population is employed. It is found that such a low rate of employment of the town is due to the inadequate industrial infrastructure of the town.

Slum Scenario- Golaghat

It is found that 36% of the population of  the city lives  in the slum area. The geographic condition of the town is such that mostly all the slum area are affected by  floods. The existing slum is divided into 11 wards. Details are as:

Comparison of ward to slum population

 

In Golaghat we submitted the proposal to the Golaghat Municipal Board for the establishment of the establishment of 104 new dwelling units and the infrastructure development of the existing ones to be carried in collaboration with the Directorate of Town & Country Planning  & Golaghat Municipal Board.
