The compact Oxford Reference Dictionary (Catherine Soanes) defines infrastructure as the basic structures needed for the operation of a society or organization. It includes roads, buildings, power supplies etc

Government of India defines infrastructure as the basic minimum facilities needed for the citizens to survive in a city as per the standard followed in the country. In India, it is perceived as the states responsibility to provide this infrastructure in the society/ community. Focusing on these infrastructure facilities will reveal general living conditions and the access of the community members to the facilities will have a say on the development achieved in the area.

SPRS based on the direction of the Government of India, focus on the details of the infrastructure facilities available in the particular city. This infrastructure facility we focus includes road, water supply (portable water, household water), drainage, sewerage, city connectivity, storm water drain facilities, proneness to flood, sanitation facilities garbage disposal, street light etc.Summary is displayed in the reporting panel.

Road is the wide way between places with a hard surfaces for vehicles to travel on. (The compact Oxford Reference Dictionary (Catherine Soanes)) . As per the socio economic survey is concerned, it is the pathway available for the commuters which include the people and vehicles to travel; from one destination to other. If some part of the road used is pucca and remaining katcha, then the type of road will be determined by considering the distance covered by each kind of road.

In the reporting panel, SPRs will focus on the road facilities availed to the citizen. The analyzed summaryof state, city, slum & wards in percentage and value basis is recorded with the support of the identification mark

Water supply:

Water supply means the facilities available in the community to access community. In socio economic studies, source of water supply is given increased attention as the living conditions and the water supply is linked.

As per the Government of India suggestions, here we focus on the portable water (drinking water) and the household water. Generally in India, the term portable water is also used for the drinking water. It will be free from pollution, harmful organisms and impurities. Household water is the water used for the domestic purposes or the water available in the household. It includes water used for drinking, preparing food, bathing, washing clothes and dishes etc

Here in the slum development exercise, SPRS focus on the Number of households using different source. The population using the portable water and the sources of the drinking water such as the No. of: individual taps, public taps, tube wells, bore wells hand pumps etc is recorded.

If the drinking water is supplied through a piped water connection either through Tap within the premises or through Public tap outside the premises, then duration of water supply will be recorded against this item in code. If the source of drinking water facility is located outside the premises of the household, then the distance of the drinking water source from the house will be ascertained and appropriate distance code will be entered

As far as the household water connectivity is concerned, we emphasize on the slum & household connectivity to the city-wide water supply trunks systems along with the connectivity status is documented and is available in the reporting panel. The summary of the state, city, slum and ward wise is available with the household identity

Drainage can be defined as the system allowing the clearance of drains It includes the system of drains and their operation, by which superfluous water is removed from towns, railway lines , mines, and other works.

Here we focus on the Total Number of HHs having access to Storm water Drainage, Underground Drainage/Sewer Lines, Digester and not Connected to Sewer or Digester to be recorded against this item.

In India, an underground sewerage system contains underground pipes or Conducts for carrying off drainage water, waste matter, discharge from water closets, frequency of clearance of open drains etc.we also focus on the connectivity of the slum to the city-wide Storm water drainage and city-wide Sewerage systems

Street Light:

A street light is the source of light available in the small internal pocket roads operating during the nights.

SPRS emphasizes on the information on whether the slum has street light facility is recorded and helps to analyze the physical security & the living conditions of the slum. It will also helps to assess the asset assessment of the slum. Here in the reporting panel, the street light facility is recorded on the order of the state, city, slum & ward etc along with the slum and household id.

Electricity in simple terms is the lighting arrangements. Electricity connection, Kerosene, Firewood & others are the prominent sources.

Here in the study we are focusing on the electricity arrangement for the house and the area as well. Electricity may be used legally or illegally and the electricity may be supplied to the household either through public agencies, corporations or by private suppliers. However, if the household makes its own arrangement, either through generator or solar plant, to generate electricity, the household will not be considered as having electricity for domestic use 'Others' will include all other type of arrangements not covered in any of these definitions.

As per the Government of India direction, the electric facility in the house in which the household currently staying will be recorded and thus we calculate the total facility available in the area. Electricity connection, Kerosene, Firewood & others are the options. If more than one source is used, the primarily or the principal one on the basis the extent of usage will have to be identified and will be noted.

Reporting panel provides the details of the number of the households using the electricity connection, kerosene, firewood and other sources and also the supply source on the state, city, ward and slum wise will be available.
